Watchwords

Saturday, April 25 – Worrier’s Prayer

WATCHWORD:

Time for fun, smiles and a giggle or two.  Let’s start with this:

How well God must like you—you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon,
you don’t slink along Dead-End Roads,
you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.
Psalm 1:1 The Message

Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart;
for God has already accepted your works. Ecclesiastes 9:7

Not a Meditation:

Back when my granddaughter, Hazel Jane Escott, was 5, 6 or 7, she and I had a song that we would sing. We were pretty lousy and we were pretty hokey but we enjoyed each other. She’s old now, a sophisticated 16-year-old, accomplished cellist, a serious young lady. I wonder if she would sing that with me?  Well, of course she has, but only in the family. The other day I was playing with the lyrics, and I came up with this version to match our present State of affairs … You know the song, here are the new words. Let’s hear it, loud and clear!

Hey Good Lookin’
Isolation version by Stan Escott, Esq.

Say, hey good lookin’,
Whacha got cookin’
How’s about cookin’ somethin’ up with me?
Hey, hey sweet baby
don’t cha think maybe
We could ditch this present monotony.

Got a hot new Chevy
and a ten-dollar bill
I know a spot just over the hill,
there’s no isolation and the dancin’ free
if you want to break the law,
come along with me.

Hey, hey, good lookin’
I’ve got somethin’ cookin’
why don’t you come and share my felony.

Wait, wait, sweet baby,
Keep the faith, baby
gotta believe that God’s love is tough
Keep the faith, baby,
believe we’ll be together, baby
trust me we will be dancin’ soon enough.

Breakin’ out of covid, There’s only one way.
Stay at home, baby, Hear what I say,
don’t lose your head, Don’t be misled,
Just remember all that I have said.

Hey, hey sweet baby,
keep the faith, baby
Tomorrows day will shine like new
We’ll weather this storm, me and you,
Listen to me, for this is true,
Thank the Good Lord, he’ll get us through. Hey, hey.
Hey, hey sweet faithful, keep the faith, faithful,
Tomorrows day will shine on us like new.

Can I get an Amen?

(My apologies to music lovers and Hank Williams. If one can’t be silly now, when?)

Today’s Funny — In the foyer of a church, a young boy was looking at a plaque with the names of men and women who had died in various wars. He asked the pastor, “Who are these people?” The pastor said, “Those are members from our church who died in service.” The boy asked, “The early service or the second service?”

Another funny, just for today: A puppy is talking to his mom. Mom, why are humans wearing muzzels? Humans are just too dumb to learn ‘Sit’ and ‘Stay’.

This one for ‘you know who’ – In eight weeks, 88% of blondes may disappear from the earth and that will be a sad time. (I think I’m in trouble!)

Worrier’s Prayer:

Dear Lord, Help me to relax about insignificant details, beginning tomorrow at 7:41:23 a.m. EST.
Help me to consider people’s feelings, even if most of them are hypersensitive.
Help me to take responsibility for the consequences of my actions, even though they’re usually not my fault.
Help me to not try to run everything – but, if you need some help, please feel free to ask me.
Help me to be more laid back, and help me to do it exactly right.
Help me to take things more seriously, especially laughter, parties, and dancing.
Give me patience, and I mean right now!
Help me not be a perfectionist. (Did I spell that correctly?)
Help me to finish everything I sta … (where was I?)
Help me to keep my mind on one thing … oh, look, a Wren! … at a time.
Help me to do only what I can, and trust you for the rest. And would you mind putting that in writing?
Keep me open to others’ ideas, misguided though they may be.
Help me follow established procedures. Hey, wait … this one is wrong …
Help me slow down andnotrushthroughwhatidoThankyouLord.Amen

Editor’s Note:  Enough jocularity. It’s time to get serious!    (Maybe, tomorrow, maybe not.)

Closing Prayer:

Remember this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be very glad in it. Amen?

Dear God, Thank you for your amazing power and work in our lives, thank you for your goodness and for your blessings over us. Thank you for your great love and care. Thank you for your sacrifice so that we might have freedom and life. Forgive us for when we don’t thank you enough, for who you are, for all that you do, for all that you’ve given. Help us to set our eyes and our hearts on you afresh. Renew our spirits, fill us with your peace and joy. We love you and we need you, this day and every day. We give you praise and thanks, for You alone are worthy! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
