Watchwords

God on the Left, God on the Right

WATCHWORD:

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:12-13

I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me… John 10:14

Meditation:

God on the Left, God on the Right

I recently received the following from a member of the Watchword network, and I thought I would pass it on to you since, in my judgment, it has practical and spiritual value:

Yesterday, I had this really great conversation with a friend. She’s been a trusted friend and advisor for many years; we met originally at the church I was attending, years ago.

Anyway, I was telling her I was feeling overwhelmed — that there just wasn’t enough of me to go around what with my business, the house, the dogs, family things, the impending holiday season, just around the corner.

She suggested that I take a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and on the left put the things I would do and on the right put the things I was assigning to the “Universe” (my Higher Power?). She said that the left-hand list should be shorter than the right-hand side. As I was making the list on the left, I should meditate on whether or not it was truly something I wanted to do or could “delegate”.

She said, “Think of the Universe (Higher Power?) as your Celestial Staff. Remember how to delegate!” I like that. What I know about being a successful manager is you only have to do three things: 1) be clear about the goals (visualize), 2) trust your people (have faith), and 3) show up and do your part (be present).

The reason I am telling you all that is that your Watchword (October 25?) was the first thing I read this morning and it was like a big fat confirmation. Thanks.

Thank you, friend, for that feedback. I can relate. I have been to the brink of overwhelming, and know how it could be punishing. Sometimes we have a false sense of owing others, or living up to others expectations. At my age and stage of life, I am coming to realize that I need to “delegate”, to trust the right side of that chart. This was good for me to read, and I hope to others out there in Watchword-land. I have come to trust God for the inspiration that creates these meditations each day. Still, there are times.

We need to remind ourselves that God is in charge, He tracks our paths. He meditates what is on the left and what is on the right. Mostly, He loves us. Thank you, Heavenly Father.  Amen.

Watch out! Halloween is tomorrow, beware, and don’t be scared… Boo!

Little Orphan Annie
by
James Whitcomb Riley
Little Orphan Annie’s come to my house to stay.
To wash the cups and saucers up and brush the crumbs away.
To shoo the chickens from the porch and dust the hearth and sweep,
and make the fire and bake the bread to earn her board and keep.
While all us other children, when the supper things is done,
we sit around the kitchen fire and has the mostest fun,
a listening to the witch tales that Annie tells about
and the goblins will get ya if ya don’t watch out!

Closing Prayer:

Our Lord, we know that all is well. We trust Thee for all. We love Thee increasingly. We bow to Thy Will.  Amen.
