Meditation:

Is Talking with God, Prayer?

Nearly every morning, in the early hours, I sit in my “prayer chair”, my coffee cup full, my simple thank you, Lord, on my lips, and I begin my time with God. In my prayerful imagination,  I see the creator of everything sitting across from me, and I talk to him as I would talk to a friend.

Sometimes I talk through a feeling of darkness as I consider the agenda for the day, at other times I talk to him about the quandary I am in with respect to communicating with my family, especially in preparation for the coming holidays. Those times with God are gratifying, peace-producing, and it is during those times that inspiration seems to flow into devotionals or additions to the next story, and I am the scribe for the Lord’s storyline.

I sincerely believe it is. We give praise and glory to the Lord, and His many names; he is the Creator God, the Messiah, he is the Spirit within me, he is my savior and Lord. He is God present in my life at all times and under all circumstances. In addition to all those blessed ‘titles’, He is my Friend and I am His child. Of course, my conversation with God reaches Him and it is prayer. He knows my thoughts before they are on my tongue. He knows the source of my fears and worries, and He knows the pattern and truth of my life, all those things He tells us “Do not…” yet we do.

More often than not, in the midst of my conversation with God it will frequently occur to me that the confusion and the sense of being overwhelmed by the worries of the day have dissipated like morning mist. As I talk with god there’s an awareness of the presence of his love washing over me, and I know it is the joy of the Lord.

Sometime during this sacred time I begin to truly know that this is the Day the Lord has made, my meeting with him was not a chance occurrence. He reassured me that he is present with me whether I feel it or not. And when I start talking with him about whatever is on my mind I can’t help but rejoice in the fact that I know He understands me perfectly. As I communicate with him in conversation my mood will gradually lighten and I have an awareness of my child-like relationship with the creator of the universe. Wow! May it be so with you. Amen.

Dove Chocolate Wisdom:

Small steps can still walk miles. Go at your own pace.

Closing Prayer:

I believe, Lord, you You are here present. Although my eyes do not see You, my faith senses You. Take any stray thoughts from my mind. Make me understand the truths which You wish to teach me. Let me make up my mind to put them into practice. Speak to my soul, Lord, Your servant is listening,

Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart and kindle in me the fire of Your love, send forth Your Spirit and I shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. O God, by the the light of Your Holy Spirit instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant, by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in Your consolations. Through Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
