I Did It His Way

WATCHWORD:

But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:6-7

Meditation:

 I Did It His Way

In 1969, Paul Anka released his hit single, I Did It My Way. Eight years later Frank Sinatra recorded it and it became his theme song. Initially, I liked it, but then I listened more carefully to the words; that he didn’t need any help, didn’t need a Lord and savior. He could do it all on his own, his way.  Whoa!  To refresh your memory, here is one verse from that song:

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

I’m sorry, but I don’t buy that, not for a moment. That song does not express the sentiment of a believer. They say if you see something, say something. I think that also applies to seeing something written or heard, and do your best to make it right. So, I say, darn the copyrights, here is my attempt to change that song from one of self-righteousness to one of faith. Think about what the words say, sing it out, and enjoy. If I get sued, it’s on me and I will still do it His way… My title: I Did It His Way. Original, eh?

And now, the end is near
with peace I face the final curtain
I’ll say it clear, I’ll state my case,
of which I’m certain.
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than that,
He led me all the way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
He led me in all I had to do
I saw them through without exception
He planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
Because I followed Him
Each step was won,
And not my way.

Yes, there were times, I’m sure He knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
He took my hand and led me out.
I faced it all and I stood tall
Cause I did it His way.

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that,
And may I say, not in a shy way
It all worked out,
Cause I did it His way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not his Lord, then he is lost
If you truly believe, follow the Savior’s leads.
The record shows I took the blows
And followed God’s way.

Do we ever do things our own way?  When we tried, what did it get us?  Sometimes pride and arrogance gets in the way, or perhaps we are hesitant to step away from our comfort to do the right thing?  Maybe our way leads to confusion, uncertainty and spiritual darkness. And we grope around in the dark, blinded by our own indecisions. Not knowing what to do or where to go. We get desperate, we panic. We left peace and joy behind, as well as God’s promises. Then suddenly, right there in our hearts, a light, the light of God’s presence. He holds out His hand, and we grasp it. Peace, and His Joy floods our minds and souls. We are saved!  Let’s keep doing it His way. Amen.

One more clue, and hopefully I’ll be able to share with you a full reveal of my surprise. Clue #3: Go and Do Likewise. Where did that come from?

Prayer:

Heavenly father, draw me close to you let me feel your love surrounding me. Guide me to the way that you have laid out for my life and help me never to stray. It’s in Jesus name. Amen
