WATCHWORD:
Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10a
Meditation:
Be Still and Know
Be still and know that I am God, is a marvelous statement of spiritual truth. A beautiful blend of passive and active voice, eight words providing direction and purpose.
Be still is passive, implying rest in his Almighty arms, being totally surrendered to the Lord. This is peaceful work. This is a time of listening to the voice of our Lord, speaking from within, speaking in sounds of nature, speaking in the quiet murmurings of our life in God. In truth this is not work, it is the joy of the Lord in its fullness.
And Know that I am God. An active and declarative voice, the strong faith of an active engaged disciple. The act of living out the life of Jesus in our lives. This is not an intellectual exercise of knowing, this is the reflection of God through us to our world, unashamed, without fear, and without hesitation.
Be still, and know that I am God. The blend of the passive and the active. The creation of the spiritual masterpiece by our Lord in our lives. It’s in the very active knowing, believing and resting on our faith in Christ as the son of God, that makes a complete life in Christ possible.
What follows is…you sense the voice of God, speaking from the depths of your being, “Be still so that you can hear my voice,” that wee small voice that nudges us along, that seems to be coming from within, or perhaps echoes of a loved one speaking to you from a distance, or a remembrance. Perhaps even something as remote as a sign you may have seen along the highway. Whatever the source of the ‘Voice’, pay attention, let the spoken words, the nudge, the circumstance lead you, for it is in your mind that My spirit continues to speak. Be still and know that it is I, the Good Shepherd, leading you. Amen.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly father helped us overcome the distractions of the world, help us to keep our focus on you Lord in our everyday lives, teach us truly to be still, to rest in you while at the same time, knowing deep within our very being that you are God. We offer this prayer, Lord in the name of Jesus Christ, our savior and lord, Amen.
